The City of Elgin has launched a six-year Central Business District Streetscape Project to beautify its downtown.  City streets and sidewalks have been rebuilt with beautifying elements including bricks, planters, street lights, trees and benches.

Construction has been divided into smaller stages and will generally encompass two city blocks at one time.  It is expected that each of those two blocks will be completed within a three- to four-week period.  Click on “construction updates” for more information.

To help businesses, patrons and residents maneuver the streets, the Gettin’ Around In Downtown website will be updated as to the best detour routes and parking sites throughout the construction project.  So check back!
