Central Business District Construction Continues
Elgin - Phase III of the Central Business District’s $40 million Street Resurfacing and Streetscape Project is again underway as the City of Elgin continues to work toward the revitalization of its downtown area.
Construction work in the Central Business District continues during the week of June 29th.
Phase 3 construction continues during the week of June 29. Work on the east side of Douglas in this area has been temporarily postponed pending resolution of utility conflicts in the existing sidewalk vaults. Completion of this block will continue immediately upon resolution of these conflicts.
To continue with progress on the overall project, the streetscape work effort has moved to the north side of Division Street between Douglas Avenue and Center Street. New curb and gutter will be poured on Friday, June 26. Work in this area will continue through July 2 with a shut down of construction activities from July 3 through Monday, July 6 because of holiday activities and the 4th of July parade on Douglas Avenue.
Phase 3 includes Douglas Avenue between Chicago Street and Kimball Street with an omission of the Highland Avenue pavement which will be included in Phase 4 work. Also included in Phase 3 is Division Street between Douglas Avenue and Center Street and Symphony Way between Douglas Avenue and Dundee Avenue.
Weekly progress meetings for the Central Business District construction project are held on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. at the construction office located at 201 E. Chicago Street. Business and property owners are invited to attend the first 15 minutes of the meeting if they have any questions or concerns regarding the construction.
