Central Business District (CBD) Street Resurfacing and Street Program
Elgin - The Central Business District’s $31.5 million Street Resurfacing and Streetscape Project continues throughout the week of May 5 with the finalization of Phase I construction work on south Grove Avenue between Chicago and Prairie Streets, Spring Street between Chicago and Fulton Streets and Dupage Street and Fulton Street, both between Spring and Villa Streets.
Traffic will be reduced to one-way through Monday, May 5 on:
Grove Avenue, northbound between Prairie and Chicago Streets;
Spring Street, southbound between Chicago and Fulton Streets;
Dupage Street, westbound from Villa Street to Spring Street;
Fulton Street, eastbound from Spring Street to Villa Street.
A map showing the traffic configuration is available at the website. Weather permitting, construction of the crosswalks is expected to be completed and two-way traffic restored by the end of the day on Monday, May 5.
Installation of the final landscaping and planting of trees will occur as weather permits. This work will require localized, daily lane closures. All work on Phase I of the Streetscape Project is expected to be completed by May 21.
Phase II water main work also continues during the week of May 5th. Overnight water main work will take place on Monday and Tuesday, May 5 and 6, at Spring Street and Highland Avenue to link the new Spring Street water main to the existing main. Water is expected to be shut down on Tuesday night at approximately midnight and will be turned back on by 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The area affected by this shut down is Spring Street between Chicago Avenue and Dexter Avenue and Highland Avenue between Spring Street and Villa Street.
Overnight water main work also will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 7 and 8, at Chicago Street and Villa/Center to link the new Chicago Street water main to the existing main. Water is expected to be shut down on Thursday night at approximately midnight and will be turned back on by 5 a.m. on Friday morning. The area affected by this shut down is Villa Court/Villa Street between Chicago Avenue and Fulton Street.
Pavement restoration of the south lane of Chicago Street between south Grove Avenue and Villa Street will also begin. One through lane of traffic will remain open with parking on the south side of Chicago Street prohibited on Chicago Street between south Grove Avenue and Villa/Center Street.
